The most important thing is... to try. Once I gave to my friend one of my paintings as a present. He framed it in a beautiful frame, but years later, when a guest came to him, he used the picture to hide a split in a bathroom-wall. In order to avoid such circumstances, it is better to evaluate our possibilities ourselves. Why not? I know for sure that my painting is worth $1'000'000 and I will prove it to myself. Art it is not a field where one should look for a profit. There are artists who subsist by their art. It is absolutely acceptable for me. Though I, personally, consider myself among those painters who earn money by doing another kind of work and then use this subsistence for their art. This facilitates to direct my art in a preferred direction. Definite tendencies in our society frequently are organized as the strong, unique conception in contemporary art. Obviously, it is possible to make a very simple calculation and check out which tendencies are profitable for the artist. For the reason, it is enough to turn on the TV and you will instantly hear the following terms: globalization, investment, economic condition, putting in funds, etc. For instance: why should I work on the project concerning issues of globalization that is not significant for me as the artist, while all my attention is directed towards the blue penguin in a desert? The answer is simple... In the case of compromise, my project will be funded. Talent of many young painters is frequently sacrificed to these tendencies. I think that it is unacceptable. One day I visited my friend at his studio. While talking, he inquired when I should give a particular direction to my paintings. He drank a glass of vodka and asked: Imagine, you appear at God’s judgment and He asks – what you were trying to express by your painting? I answered that God will understand everything as it is... My friend drank another glass of vodka and asked me again: - and what if He will not understand? All in all, I think that the most important thing for me is working process on your painting. This is very private thing... Everybody tries to have a good time and get the maximum pleasure: some of them dance, some of them go to the restaurants, some prefer to dedicate their time to their families and this makes them happy... I often dance and go to the restaurants, but the thing I like most is when I am standing in front of canvass and transmit the feelings I gathered at a certain club or restaurant. I do not understand why anybody should be interested in my emotions that I received at a club or restaurant and pay for this. I think that a person, who wants to purchase my painting, sees and perceives it the way s/he wants to. As for the name of the painter and his/her further growth, collector takes his/her chance and pays real money for a painting. But who knows, one day the acquirement she made during a crisis period can turn into a significant profit. And this is absolutely natural. Once I sold my painting via Internet. Purchaser who lived overseas was interested how I used the blue color in one of my works. He asked me to tell him a story of the painting and I told him... I cannot see anything wrong in this. This circumstance had had a pleasant result: he received my painting; I got a certain amount of money on my bank account next day. The painting you see at the beginning of the text is the result of hard drinking. I have really been in a danger to become an alcohol addict that would put an end to my existence. It is true that this painting put an end to the addiction. But on the other hand, I would not be able to create the painting without alcohol. Everything is interconnected... To put it simply: art for art’s sake. |
